Art in Beijing Fair

The Beijing art fair, where four-fifths of the 80 participating galleries hailed from outside mainland China, attracted an estimated 40,000 collectors to see 5,000 paintings, sculptures, photographs and installations. Soka sold $800,000 of art, contributing to the fair's tally of $40 million, 40 percent more than in 2007.
Soka Art Center is a Taipei-based gallery representing the three Southeast Asian artists.
The four-day show's April 24 preview coincided with a record 9.5 percent one-day surge in China's key stock index, which is still down 26 percent this year. [from bloomberg]
